I figure it is time to give you the entire lowdown on the obsessions I have. Obsessions? Ok, a little bit too much of a word for it.

Let’s start with the writing, shall we?

Ø      Sara Douglass

Yeah, my friends…RL ones by the way would laugh at me for liking a Tor writer. But I do. She has some of the most honest work that is for mature fantasy readers, the ones not stuck in the mire of Tolkein-wannabes. So far high on my favourites list is the Troy Game series, in which she takes the same characters and creates a complex web of love, deceit, lust, mayhem, murder, a really weird situation of semi-bestiality sex…yeah…it’s a great series.

Ø      Sophie Kinsella

Author of the Shopaholic series. All fans of British humour would love this novel. All women with an incoherent shopping problem would love it. I don’t have such a problem but the misadventures of Rebecca Bloom wood and her credit cards make my day. She has more of a clothing fetish than Justine and Mark for their shirt shopping. Oh, does that count as slander? How about Chrissy and Amal for their purses? That’s better.

On to TV, Movies, and Actors!

Ø      My fav. Leading men all run the gamut from alive to dead (ha!) but they all are great actors in my opinion (which matters more cause this is MY journal.) So there.

1.      Sean Bean: From Sharpe’s Waterloo to his bit part in Equilibrium. Then of course…there is the infamous BBC special of Lady Chatterley…where strategically placed flowers made Justine go “Ah!”

2.      Cary Grant: All those who think they know good acting have to see this actor in action. The Philadelphia Story is the premiere one on my list, so hilarious with great chemistry and timing between Mr. Grant and his fellow actors. Next to the P.S. is the Hitchcock film “Notorious” which partners him with Ingrid Bergman. Classic Hitchcock, it can make you think and definitely worry. Cary Grant is excellent as the cold U.S agent willing to deny love to finish
the job.

3.      Orlando Bloom: Okay, so it’s all in his…personality! Yes…that will work…

4.      Viggo Mortensen: A great side actor who is as insightful as he is good-looking. Read any interview with the man and you know that he has more brains than the majority of men (no offence intended).

5.      Nathan Fillion: Actor from Firefly the short lived TV series that is being made into a movie (GO SEE IN 2005!) He has great emotional depth and is just plain fun to watch.

Ø      My Fav. TV Shows.

1.      Once I had a fascination for DOOL. Don’t get me wrong, it is still there but until the sickliness ends, I am not promoting that show.

2.      Firefly: Short lived but incredible. Funny, serious, insightful, I consider this one Joss Whedon’s best.

3.      The Simpsons: Predictable as ever. Love it

Ø     Favourite Singers

1.      Sarah Brightman: An incredible vocalist that has immense talent.

2.      Enya: Just listen.

3.      Alison Krauss: Screw Whiskey Lullaby. She was great before that song. She has the purest and most beautiful voice I have ever heard.

4.      Andrea Bocelli: an opera singer after my own heart.

5.      Tori Amos: She writes in pure poetry that is often coherent to how she feels. Better than Britney Spears’ song about masturbation, don’t you think?

  •    Favourite Movies:

1.      The Philadelphia Story: Already mentioned. Just rent it.

2.      Equilibrium: You know, people say that it sucked…but to me it really didn’t. It made you actually think about the current state of affairs around us.

3.      Pitch Black: Another cult movie that has a big following. Cole Hauser and Vin Diesel play a great game of good guy/bad guy, and neither gave it up. But please, the last instalment for Riddick just blowed.

4.      Muppet Treasure Island: My guilty Pleasure. Pure guilt, pure fun.

5.      Bowling for Columbine: I don’t care if you support so and so. This ‘documentary’ is a favourite of mine for all the right reasons.

Stacie’s Personal Pet Peeves: Yep, you knew that it was coming, and I know that you will read them out of sheer curiosity.

Ø      Severe character shifts in stories. I don’t care if it is fan fiction or original.

Ø      Shoes: often pretty but very vexatious.

Ø      Riddick/Jack fan fiction. Don’t get me wrong, there is some great stuff out there written about them. But I find the idea of a then twelve-year old girl and a thirty+ man just creepy.

Ø      Bashers, flamers…people that that attack fanfiction for no reason. They leave idiotic reasons and then leave. They often leave an “anon” name so we can’t find them.

Ø      Guys in Bars that do not know how to ask a girl to dance. If you want to dance, please, just ask. I don’t need a guy rubbing up me expecting a free-for all.

That’s all for now folks. Tune in next time for another round of “My Favourite Things!”
